o2000-05-20 - INFO - Arnold's Film Theoryo

Let me tell you what I think about Arnold's film theory!

It was back in 1988 when Twins was released. Twins became Arnold's highest grossing film till then ($112 million - inflation not included). Therefor Arnold decided that he will mix his action epics with lighter films. He usually had a big-budget ($100 million plus, with RESTRICTED rating) film in summer and then a lighter comedy or action-comedy oriented film (with PG or PG-13 rating) and lower budget in winter. Typical years were 1990, 1994 and 1996!

Let's see how close he followed this plan:

YEAR:.....R (action).............................PG (comedy)

1988......Red Heat (R)
1988.............................................Twins (PG)
1990......Total Recall (R)
1990.............................................Kindergarten Cop (PG 13)
1991......T2 (R)
1993...........................Last Action Hero (PG 13)
1994......True Lies (R)
1994.............................................Junior (PG)
1996......Eraser (R)
1996.............................................Jingle All the Way (PG)
1997...........................Batman and Robin (PG)
1999......End of Days (R)

2000...........................The 6th Day (PG-13)
2001......Collateral Damage (R)

As you can see, Arnold hasn't made a two R-rated pictures in a row for over 10 years! I believe that after Collateral Damage  (while waiting for Crusade or True Lies 2), Arnold will at least consider doing another PG comedy (possibly with Ivan Reitman). But then again, Arnold and Jim Cameron both consider True Lies to be a comedy (with a little action in it)...
