QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"It is as satisfying to me as coming is - you know, as having sex with a woman and coming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am, like, getting the feeling of coming in the gym. I'm getting the feeling of coming at home. I'm getting the feeling of coming backstage when I pump up.When I pose out in front of 5.000 people I get the same feeling. So I'm coming day and night."

Arnold told to Cinescape magazine about a possible return to the Terminator role. 'It felt right when we got back together to do a short Terminator film for the ride at Universal Studios,' Arnold told Cinescape. 'I'm not sure if we will do another [Terminator film], but I wouldn't rule it out.' But would he do it without James Cameron? 'I wouldn't do it without Cameron,' Arnold admits.

This fact kept a Schwarzenegger-led sequel in an indefinite holding pattern for some time given the fact that James Cameron has said 'I don't think I'd be interested in doing another Terminator right now, [but] Arnold could make the film with another director.' Cameron once again affirmed his belief that between his two Arnie franchises, he's likely to proceed with another True Lies movie since 'there's more to do with [the True Lies] characters.'

o2000-07-07 - On this day - DOC SAVAGEo

Wednesday, July 7, 1999

The news was that Arnold Schwarzenegger would play new superhero.
Variety reported:

Arnold Schwarzenegger looks to be getting ready to pump up again for a big screen version of the pulp character Doc Savage, The Man of Bronze. According to Variety, Schwarzenegger will take on the role for a film that will be a collaboration between Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures. In addition, the Castle Rock Films production will be produced and directed by the team of Frank Darabont (The Green Mile) and Chuck Russell (Eraser). The trade reports that Darabont and Russell have been developing an original story based on the long lasting series when they approached Schwarzenegger with the idea. Arnold joined the two as they went and pitched the idea to Castle Rock. Darabont and Russell are said to be fashioning a script along with David Leslie Johnson who wrote an 80-page treatment for the project with Brett Hill. Once a script is finished, the decision as to who will direct will be made, though Variety is suggesting that it could well be a co-directing job between Darabont and Russell.

Doc Savage, the perfect human specimen with brains and brawn, battled injustice around the world even as he uses his millions for philanthropic pursuits. Doc is aided by five of his best friend sin the world, all of whom excel in their individual specialities. Doc Savage first appeared in the Street and Smith pulp series Doc Savage Magazine starting in 1933. In recent years, Doc is known for the paperback reprint editions of the old stories as well as the mishandled George Pal produced Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze, shot in 1975. The new film project has the same title. This version is expected to follow the magazine stories much more closely than the campy 1975 film adaption which many deemed a failure. Both Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont will share directing & producing credits on this new version, the pair have had a long working relationship and each have have had individual success stories of their own. Russell directed "The Mask" and the 1996 Arnie film Eraser, Darabont has adapted & directed the Stephen King stories "The Shawshank Redemption" and the upcoming "The Green Mile" for the big screen.

Arnie would play Dr. Clark Savage Jr., a millionaire philanthropist who has honed great mental and physical skills for one purpose - to find trouble and stop it. The project is based on a character created by pulp author Lester Dent in 1933 with his Doc Savage Magazine, printed in book form by Bantam from 1964-90, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will mark Schwarzenegger's first film with Castle Rock.

No scheduling has been set on the project pending a finished script. However; Darabont is committed to making The Bijou as his next film at Castle Rock for Warners and Universal. One can’t help but wonder how this project will affect Schwarzenegger’s other rumored projects, among them T3 and With Wings of Eagles.

Fans expressed mixed feeling towards this project: "Doc Savage is pretty old (say late 40's early 50's), this could work very well! He should this film RIGHT AWAY! It's Indiana Jones with dinosaurs in the land unknown."

Journalist Wendy Leigh, in Arnold: An Unauthorized Biography, suggested that Arnold's father Gustav was an admirer of Adolf Hitler, and joined the Nazi party that year for both political and economic gain. Although Austrians were not permitted to join the party between 1933 and 1938, she alleges that Gustav's Nazi party membership (number 8439?80) is a matter of record at the Berlin Document Center's Archival Records.

Arnold was leasing his 6-year-old Schatzi on Main restaurant to fellow Austrian Charly Temmel, who owns a neighboring restaurant on the trendy thoroughfare that runs through Venice and Santa Monica. The mostly California cuisine menu at Schatzi's will retain its sprinkling of Austrian flavor, including Schwarzenegger favorites like Wienerschnitzel, Lammkeule mit Gerostetem Gemuese (molasses glazed rack of lamb) and Zwiebel Rost Braten. Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver often frequent Schatzi's, and the actor said he will continue attending the monthly Cigar Night, which draws such celebrities as William Shatner and Wilt Chamberlain. Reasons to why Schwarzenegger leased his well reviewed restaurant was still unclear at press time.
