Arnold met Maria Owings Shriver at Robert F. Kennedy Celebrity Tennis Tournament,
Forest Hills, New York. He and one football great were tennis partner, and losing to a
pair of ten year olds, so they decided to win over the crowd; they took off their shirts
and started flexing their muscles. For Maria it was love at first sight, and the
attraction was his sense of humor.

A few fans have seen Studio 54, the movie about the 1970s disco bar of the
same name. It tries to document life at the real club. The film ends with black-and-white
photos of the stars (not all of whom were stars then) who frequented the club during its
heyday. Arnold and Maria were two celebrities who were "where it was happening."
They are shown attending a 1980 promo party for Conan at New York nightclub. The
movie premiered that day.
