Arnold won IFBB Mr. Universe (New York, New York, America). Arnold's close
friend Franco Columbu won his class and qualified for Mr. Olympia held the same day.
Sergio Oliva, who was considered the best in the businness and the man who won Mr. Olympia
twice in a row, was missing due to attend the more prestigious IFBB Mr. Olympia contest
the same day.

Mr. Universe, 1969
Arnold got an approval to attend Mr. Olympia contest. He placed second at 1969 Mr. Olympia
at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn (New York, New York, America) - Sergio Oliva
won the overall title (nicknamed The Myth - no one even dared to compete against him in
1968, so he won unchalenged). Out of seven judges, four gave first place to Sergio, three
to Arnold. After that contest (which Arnold confess he lost mentally - beaten before the
contest - when he saw Sergio cast off his then-trademark pair of butcher's overalls and
couldn't believe what the Cuban's physique looked like). Arnold never lost again. Franco
was the third competitor.

Mr. Olympia, 1969
That same contest, a 17 years old man Lou Ferrigno saw Arnold for the first time. His
father Matty got special permission for them (through his police connections) to enter the
backstage area. After Arnold appeared to be finished pumping up, Matty approached him.
"Would you give my son an autograph?" he asked. Arnold replied in a harsh tone,
"Not now! Later on!" Lou was devastated, but he realized (he became a Mr.
Olympia contender 5 years later and Mr. universe winner) later that Arnold was so into the
contest that he meant the refusal in a different way from how Louie interpreted it.

From all the competitors - Lou Ferrigno was Arnold's most beloved victim! Poor
Louie...
