Arnold won Junior Mr. Europe contest - his first bodybuilding title. Arnold won with a perfect 300 point score at the age of 18. Also competiting was 5'5" tall Franco Columbo, who later became Arnold's best friend (he won the powerlifting championship of Europe). Arnold heated up a relationship with Maria when she picked him up at a Washington, D.C., hotel, dressed like a Gympsy, for a Halloween party and dinner. Arnold fell in love with Maria - he thought she was witty!

'Sixth Day' Overseas Premiere in Tokyo

t2.jpg (369 bytes)

Before Arnold Schwarzenegger's upcoming film, The Sixth Day, hits your local theater, the film will make its world premiere overseas. The 6th Day will be presented today at the Tokyo Intl. Film Festival (the film opens in the U.S. on November 17). Arnold is already in Japan to attend the Opening event!

According to IMDB news, a British film group has bought a multi-million pound share in Terminator 3 (2002), a mega-effects sequel which will see the Austrian muscleman returning to his famed cyborg role - and movie bosses are wooing director Ridley Scott to helm the potential blockbuster. Producer Mario Kassar says, "We have a deal with Arnie to return and we hope to be filming within six months. We will probably film in America, but there's no reason why we couldn't do the special effects in the UK."

Arnold participated in a Shinto ceremony in Osaka (Japan) to bless the groundbreaking of a new Universal Studios theme park. "The last time I was here, I said, 'I'll be back,' and the Terminator always keeps his promises," the actor told the audience for the groundbreaking.

The 170 billion yen (US $1.4 billion) theme park in the central city of Osaka is Universal's first outside the United States. It is expected to attract 8 million visitors a year. At a gala event after the groundbreaking, Schwarzenegger told guests the park represents an extraordinary business event "because everyone is going to make money out of this." Universal Studios Japan is due to open in 2001.

TOMORROW: The Sixth Day premiere!

Tomorrow Arnold's latest blockbuster The Sixth Day will be world-premiered as the Opening Film at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Arnold Schwarzenegger will attend the Opening event. I hope we'll soon be able to read some good professional reviews...

Variety reported that Arnold may just have a new career as pigskin prognosticator. I've always knew that Arnold has the sixth sense, but this story is awesome.

The action star popped into the booth on Monday Night Football's Jets-Dolphins game. During the awkward banter with Dennis Miller and Al Michaels about his upcoming movie The 6th Day, Schwarzenegger came out with an unexpected and undeniably prescient proclamation.

The Jets were behind by 20 points when Ah-nuld suddenly blurted out that Gang Green would win the game. "Wayne Chrebet will catch a pass and the Jets will win. They're a great team," he said, ignoring the 20-point deficit.

As predicted, Chrebet did catch a pass. In fact, he caught two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as the Jets made the greatest comeback in "Monday Night Football" history, ultimately winning 40-37.

If Miller doesn't make the cut, Ah-nuld may just join the Monday Night team. He'll be back.

Arnold's millennium actioner End of Days has settled the matter of international distribution.

B00002.jpg (6418 bytes)

Variety reported that Days' production company, Beacon Pictures, has finalized a deal that would allow Bueva Vista the right to distribute the pic (along with the Denzel Washington starrer Lazarus and the Hurricane) in Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Latin American, Eastern Europe and some parts of Asia. Meanwhile, Village Roadshow would turn the pic out in Australia, New Zealand and Greece. The rights for the U.K. remain on the block, while Gaga Communications, Metropolitan Filmexport and RCV will distribute the pic in Japan, France and Benelux respectively.

The Fox site has put up the covers of the December and January DTS titles, many of them reissues of older, more bare-bones releases. Due on 12/26 is also Arnold's Predator!

I just hope they'll keep that awesome Dolby Digital sound track, because I don't own a DTS decoder...

The full specs haven't been released yet, though it will be anamorphic widescreen, and will contain at least the same number of features as the previous Dolby Digital version (and hopefully some more). Fox also said that the original version will be discontinued, so from here on out this will be the only version available.
