King Conan: Crown of Iron

Sources close to original Conan director John Milius have informed IGN FilmForce that Milius has begun work on the screenplay for the third film in the Conan series.

B34243.jpg (34937 bytes)

Titled King Conan: Crown of Iron, the title certainly has a Robert E. Howard ring to it. As you may remember, IGN FilmForce first brought the news of the project last summer when the Wachowski Brothers made it clear they were very interested in reviving the series with Milius.

Now the only question is whether or not Arnold will strap on the old loincloth again... While Milius has made clear that he prefers Arnold return to one of his best known roles, Schwarzenegger himself has remained somewhat aloof on the subject, going so far as telling the press during interviews for The 6th Day that he didn't think he would be able to fit the project into his schedule. Rumors have also surrounded the possibility of Arnold's friend and actor Ralph Moeller (recently seen in Ridley Scott's Gladiator) taking over the role. Moeller played Conan in a short-lived television version of the characer.

AFW Weekend held the National Symposium on Natural Fitness by meeting of over 200 sports doctors. Arnold and Dr. Jack Barnathan were seminar's keynote speakers. Barnathan was IFBB judge who founded the seminar five years earlier with Arnold and his partner Jim Lorimer. Sports doctors and Arnold honoured Arnold's bodybuilding nemesis Bill Pearl.

Later that day Arnold received the IFBB Gold Order at the Arnold Fitness Weekend in Columbus, acknowledging him as the greatest bodybuilder of the 20th century. It was a combination of physique, titles won, and the promotion of the IFBB and the sport of bodybuilding all over the world. When the presentation of the Gold Order was made officially, Arnold received a five minute standing ovation and he was noticeably emotional and happy about receiving this award. Only two other received IFBB's Gold Order - the IFBB's executive director Pamela Kagan and International Olympic Committe President Juan Antonio Samaranch.

Arnold's fourth Oscar appearance as a presenter was announced. Arnold was one of the first actors to be put on the presenters' list for the 70th Academy Awards celebrations.

Sunday, February 27, 2000

Arnold presented his longtime friend, James Cameron with the "GOLDEN EDDIE" award from the American Cinema Editors (ACE). The ACE awards, nicknamed "Eddies", are primarily given to editors, however, the special "Golden Eddie" is occasionally presented to a director or producer that ACE feels has significantly contributed or shaped the art and craft of film storytelling.

Cameron joined very distinguished company by receiving the award (only the sixteenth ever presented), including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Robert Altman, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.
